Garrett Leight eyewear has been spotted on celebs from Jeff Bezos to Brad Pitt, and the luxury brand just opened their first boutique outside of the U.S. on Toronto’s Queen Street West. Garrett Leight, a longtime resident and proponent of Venice Beach culture, felt a resonance with this bohemian Canadian neighbourhood and decided it was the perfect location for the company’s hip and high-fashion eyewear brand to expand north of the border.
The design of the flagship Canadian location took form with collaborations between Garrett Leight, a talented and passionate team of Canadian opticians, and the Canadian-born/Los-Angeles-trained architectural designer Dan Hapton. The space is a roughly 200-year-old, long and narrow allotment that is characteristic of the neighbourhood’s urban fabric. The design sculpts the perimeter walls and ceilings of the old building with modern and shapely lines that echo the sensibilities of Southern California architecture. Tightly composed figural built-ins draw the eye down the length of the space for a rich minimalism that reflects the brand itself. For more info: garrettleightqueenwest.ca
