Sophisticated sipping for those skipping the booze this January

While the passing of New Year 2021 may have been unlike any other, we’re still interested in trying to be better, healthier versions of ourselves (at least until February). If taking part in “Dry January” was among your resolutions, or you’re just mindful of alcohol intake, one of the most sophisticated non-alcoholic sippers to add to your pantry is the lineup from Seedlip.

Toronto-based mixologist Evelyn Chick—an award-winning global hospitality talent, bar and beverage consultant, cocktail and spirits educator—shares her tips and tricks to concoct the perfect at-home, alcohol-free cocktail.

“I approach crafting a non-alcoholic cocktail as I would cooking a dish: I pick out certain ingredients based on a characteristic, and use other ingredients to either complement or contrast its flavours,” says Chick.

“Seedlip lends well to bitter notes, which highlight not only its complex botanical profile, but also make for nuanced non-alcoholic cocktails that are far more interesting than a simple mix of soda, citrus and sugar. It’s important to note that I use Seedlip as a base for non-alcoholic cocktails, but not as a direct substitute for traditional spirit styles. I wouldn’t necessarily substitute an ounce of alcohol for an ounce of Seedlip, as alcohol is far more astringent and concentrated with specific flavours. Instead, I start with one to twp ounces of Seedlip as the foundation for my drinks and build flavours around that.”

“I really love using Seedlip Spice 94, the rich aromatic flavours and aromas of allspice and clove are great for the colder weather. Oranges, cinnamon, agave, and lime are all great winter flavours that marry well with Spice 94,” she says.

Here are four non-alcoholic recipes by Evelyn Chick featuring Seedlip. Enjoy!
