A monumental exhibition of the art of Vincent van Gogh is being staged in Toronto that welcomes audiences to a 600,000 cubic-foot, immersive digital art experience featuring a selection of his 2,000-plus catalogue of works.
Visitors will be immersed in Van Gogh’s works, from his sunny landscapes and night scenes, to his portraits and still life paintings. The installation includes the Dutch master’s most well-known pieces, including the Mangeurs de pommes de terre (The Potato Eaters, 1885), Nuit étoilée (Starry Night, 1889), Les Tournesols (Sunflowers, 1888), and La Chambre à coucher (The Bedroom, 1889).
The exhibition was designed by the creators of Atelier des Lumières, who originated the digital art experience in Paris, that has since been viewed by more than 2 million people.
In response to restrictions to large gatherings due to Covid-19 organizers prepared two gallery spaces to present the work. One has been prepared for viewing with social distancing circles to allow space between guests, and the other presents the innovative option of a drive-in viewing. “Gogh by Car” patrons can drive into the historic space that once housed the Toronto Star’s printing presses at 1 Yonge Street to enjoy the 35-minute experience of art, light, sound and imagination. Guests remain in their vehicle while experiencing the immersive art display, just 14 cars are booked per time slot.
If you’d like to “Gogh by Car,” the drive-in experience runs until September 7. Regular tickets are timed, the show continues through September 30.
