Marking the beginning of another Toronto patio season, Four Seasons Hotel Toronto just reopened its outdoor dining destination, d|azur, and sets the scene for the summer with a new mural that captures the essence and beauty of the Mediterranean.

The Hotel commissioned Canadian artist, Florence Solis-Byun to dream up this season’s custom art installation as the backdrop of d|azur, titled Light and Shadows Against the Mediterranean Hues

“For the second consecutive year, the mural has become an integral part of the Hotel and patio’s identity throughout the summer months,” says Patrick Pollak, General Manager of Four Seasons Hotel Toronto. “It is with great pleasure that we reopen d|azur with a fresh look and continue to celebrate rising Canadian artists by providing a large canvas to showcase their talents. Florence’s interpretation of an escape to the Côte d’Azur is a beautiful example of how we can be transported through art.”

Solis-Byun is a Filipino-Canadian, multi-disciplinary artist from Hamilton, Ontario. Her dynamic and contemporary pieces have been featured in Canadian galleries and shows including the University Duran Mashaal Gallery, Wallspace Gallery Toronto and the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair. Located on the Hotel’s southwest facade, her captivating work of art sits above Bay Street and Yorkville Avenue. Guests can sit back, relax and admire the unique details, textures and colours encapsulating the unique and desirable allure of the coastal region.

“As an artist, I like to focus on certain aspects that evoke feelings associated with being in a specific place. For d|azur, my inspiration came from the small details found in the Mediterranean,” says Solis-Byun. “What stood out to me were the rolling hills and cliffs peppered with pastel structures, the rough, old-world textures complimented by soft stucco facades, a pink gradient sunset reflecting on the gentle azure waves and warm light with blossoming shadows against a bright exterior and this is reflected in my piece.”

Hotel guests and locals alike can dine in signature Four Seasons opulence as d|azur offers an enhanced look pairing perfectly with a refreshed summer menu curated by Sous Chef Maru Cacho. The menu features d|bar signature dishes in addition to new seasonally inspired items including Strawberry Rhubarb Red Snapper Aguachile. Decadent pastries and sweet creations showcasing summer flavours created by Pastry Chef Kevin Levionnois tie together the memorable experience.  d|azur is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. until midnight, and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.
